A NoCapMocap Alternative, Tested on the Same 12 Prompts

We ran the 12 sample prompts from our homepage through NoCapMocap and MocapGen. Here's where each one came out ahead, and exactly how we measured it.

MocapGen is not affiliated with NoCapMocap. We use the name only to identify the tool we tested.

MocapGen is a NoCapMocap alternative built on the same HY-Motion model, at the same price per second from 4 seconds up. In our same-prompt test across 12 prompts, MocapGen kept feet on the floor more often and exports a native .rbxmx — here's the full test, including where NoCapMocap won.

Tested October 4, 2026.

How we ran the test

To test MocapGen as a NoCapMocap alternative, we gave both tools the same jobs on October 4, 2026.

  1. Same 12 prompts

The 12 sample prompts from our homepage, with the same length and motion mode on both tools.

  2. Same settings, no picking

On nocapmocap.com's web app we chose HY-Motion, Balanced, and the Roblox rig, and kept all 48 takes. MocapGen gave 2 takes per prompt, 24 in all, with no picking.

  3. Measured by script

We downloaded the R15 FBX from both, each at 30 frames per second. A script tracked the hips and ankles frame by frame and measured every distance against leg length.

  4. Rated blind

Every take became the same stick figure facing the camera. One AI rater, a large language model, scored shuffled still frames from 1 to 5 for prompt match and quality without knowing which tool made which take.

We threw out a first round of ratings because our renders faced away from the camera and confused the rater.

What NoCapMocap does well

If you're weighing a NoCapMocap alternative, you likely know it's a solid tool. Here's where it beats us.

  • More ways in

Text, video, speech, and crowd modes. MocapGen takes text only for now.

  • Its own Studio plugin

Its Motion Lab plugin on the Creator Store brings animations into Studio. We have no plugin.

  • Two models

You can pick HY-Motion or NVIDIA's Kimodo.

  • Prompt helpers

A live word-count hint and a button that rewrites your prompt with AI.

  • Finer length control

Length moves in 0.1-second steps. Ours moves in 0.5-second steps.

The biggest gap was floor contact: all 4 NoCapMocap takes of the sprint start began sunk into the floor. Its loops also often jumped at the seam.

Where NoCapMocap won or tied

  • Energy: its moves were about 8% bigger, which can read as punchier.
  • Short clips: 2 seconds cost 2 credits there and 4 here. From 4 seconds up, the price is the same.
  • Speed: its runs took 36 to 107 seconds, about 78 in the middle. We haven't timed ours end to end, so we make no speed claim.
  • Ties: smoothness and exact clip length were even, and the rater's top picks split 6 to 6.
  • Shared flaws: arms passing through the head, weak arm swing on walks, and faint idle head turns, all from the shared model.

What this test can't tell you

  • We ran it ourselves, and we make one of the two tools.
  • Sample sizes differ: 2 takes per prompt from us, 4 from NoCapMocap.
  • One AI rater scored still frames, not video.
  • Stick figures hide hand and foot details.
  • We rewrote 2 prompts after our first try went badly, and NoCapMocap got the rewritten versions too.
  • After the test we added a floor fix to MocapGen. Every number here is from before it.
  • This was one day; either tool may change.

Should you switch to a NoCapMocap alternative?

  • Stay with NoCapMocap if

you want video or speech input, a Studio plugin, or lots of 1 to 3 second clips at the lowest price.

  • Try MocapGen if

you want a native .rbxmx with no plugin, feet that stay on the floor, clean loops, or a free preview before you pay.

FAQ

What is the best NoCapMocap alternative?
It depends on what you use NoCapMocap for. NoCapMocap is strong for video input and plugin workflows. If you want text to R15 with a native .rbxmx and a free daily preview, MocapGen is a close match.
Is MocapGen connected to NoCapMocap?
No. MocapGen and NoCapMocap are made by different teams and aren't affiliated. Same model doesn't mean same product: both run HY-Motion, a model Tencent released publicly, but the R15 retargeting and cleanup differ, and that's what our test measured.
Is there a free NoCapMocap alternative?
MocapGen gives signed-in users 1 free preview a day and a free R15 animation library. Roblox's own Animation Capture, built into Studio, turns a video under 15 seconds into R15 keyframes.
Is NoCapMocap free?
No free credits. Its own site says a free account includes no credits and generating needs a plan or credit pack. Checked October 4, 2026.
Which one is cheaper?
Plans and packs cost the same. Both charge 1 credit per second, but MocapGen has a 4-credit minimum, so a 2-second clip costs 2 credits on NoCapMocap and 4 here.
Which one is faster?
We don't know yet. NoCapMocap took 36 to 107 seconds per run in our test, but we haven't timed MocapGen end to end.
Does MocapGen have a Roblox Studio plugin?
No. MocapGen gives you an .rbxmx file to add with Insert from File, so you don't need one.
Can I check your results?
Yes. Each sample name in the per-prompt table opens a labeled side-by-side image, and the per-take metrics and blind ratings, key included, download as CSV files. The 12 prompts are our homepage samples, so you can rerun them too.
